Frequently asked questions
Wash it in much the same way as you normally wash your regular bed linen.Β
The difference is that a quilt takes up some space in the machine, so in a normal washing machine you run one quilt at a time. Of course, it's fine to drive with a pillow case. (Depending on the size of your washing machine, it is possible to run two duvets at the same time)
Because it is so easy to handle and you don't have to bother with threading on and off duvet covers, you can break your usual washing pattern.
Normally, you might wash all the bedding at the same time to collect the mess for one occasion.
One tip is to break your usual laundry pattern, and not accumulate a mountain of laundry. Wash the Folkness blankets separately when needed instead. You don't need to make the bed - it's already made!
Another tip for not having to wash your Folkness blankets as often is to turn it over after a while of use. You need to wash bed sheets and pillowcases more often than the duvet, you come into contact with these in a different way, and more dirt, liquid, etc. collects there.
Our Folkness blankets can handle 60 degrees, do it when needed. But we recommend washing at lower temperatures, the difference is not as big as you might think between, for example, 40-60 degrees. Today's washing machines and detergents do an almost equally good job anyway. To get rid of mites, however, 60 degrees is required.
Do not use fabric softener. And preferably liquid detergent, and make sure not to overdose. Choose a detergent that is gentle and does not contain bleach.
The fastest way is with a tumble dryer. But hanging to dry works just as well! And it's quick - wash in the morning and hang up and it's dry by evening. Best for the environment and the wallet is of course to hang dry. Both ways work fine.
A Folkness quilt is run in a normal-sized tumble dryer for best results.
Depending on how efficient your dryer is, you may experience that it is not 100% dry after the program (just like with regular duvets). If your dryer dries the Folkness blankets immediately, you can ignore the two options below.
Alt 1; Take it out, turn it a little, and run for a little while longer, test with 20 minutes first.
Alt 2; Let it hang dry the rest if you are not going to bed right away.
Do NOT use tennis balls or similar.
We think it is important that neither the feeling nor the appearance should differ too much from what you are used to. We think most people prefer to sleep against a natural material rather than polyester. Other so-called "2-in-1" blankets usually only have a polyester (microfibre) as outer fabric, and we see that as a completely ordinary fiber inner blanket, regardless of color and design. As far as we know, using polyester duvet covers is not that common.
That's why our quilts are wrapped in a fantastic fabric in 100% organic cotton in percale weave. 200 in thread density and the cotton is both GOTS and Oeko-Tex certified. Even the filling is Oeko-Tex certified, so you can be sure that it does not contain harmful chemicals.Β
We also have a microfiber in our duvets, but it only holds the filling in place, and you never come into direct contact with it.
Our fabric comes from Portugal, and the entire quilt is made in Estonia with care for both quality and durability.
Do you think, no. But there are many who think so. And not just because you are lazy, but because it is difficult, heavy or you have other obstacles. This is a nice relief for anyone who appreciates a simpler everyday life.
Many people look for duvet covers with holes to make bedding easier - you don't have to think about that with Folkness.
Spontaneously, one might think that there is no difference at all. We would say that there is a big difference. A regular quilt is not made to act on its own. Not very nice either with visible channel seams that hold the filling, rather strong and less fine seams on the outer edges. The outer fabric is also not adapted to be closest to the body. That's how it usually looks. It requires a duvet more or less.Β
The Folkness quilt is a combination of quilt and duvet cover. With some adaptations to get a good function that makes the Folkness blanket handle as smoothly as possible, while the appearance should not differ from ordinary duvets. For example, everything fits together, the parts are sewn together, which means that the quilt does not move and creates empty edges or slips out of the duvet cover.
Yes, absolutely! With Folkness, you don't have to think about duvet covers at all, because you no longer need to put duvet covers on and off at all. How nice?
Not at all - on the contrary! You put it in the washing machine, let it dry and then it's done. No fuss with duvet covers. A nice bonus is that everything will be clean and fresh. Many people are good at washing their duvets at regular intervals, but we also know that many people never do it.
Yes, that was a question we asked ourselves too.Β That you want to change your look sometimes in the bedroom.
So we did a big survey around that.
It turned out that it was really more or less a non-issue;
Often you have a set of duvet covers/pillowcases that are your favourites, you may have bought slightly more expensive products that you absolutely want to use. Then you don't want to take out that extra set from the wardrobe or most commonly; the "old" bedding. But you make sure to plan your laundry so that you can use the same favorite set again.
That's what we came up with, and when we think about it ourselves - it's true.Β
A good tip for changing the feeling in the bedroom is to perhaps buy a blanket or change a pillow from time to time, it does a lot for the overall impression.
BUT, if it is important to change every time you wash, then our recommendation is to have two sets of Folkness blankets at home. :)
We are often asked about the lifespan of the Folkness blankets. It is understandable when it comes to a new product that is also a combination of two products, that you as a customer wonder about it.Β
Since different people handle their bedding in different ways, it is difficult to talk about the number of years. Some wash once a week and others every three weeks, etc.
We have chosen to follow the Asthma and Allergy Association's recommendation regarding how often you should wash your bedding. Their recommendation is to try to wash every two weeks. We think the most common interval is somewhere around every two/three weeks though, and have said our quilts should last five years beyond that.
They most likely last longer than that, or at a closer interval if you like.Β
They are made for normal use and to be washed often, and we have chosen to make them in a good and fine percale fabric, which is durable.Β
Is that a reasonable lifespan or not? We'd say it is.
But if you compare it to ordinary bed linen, you might have to ask about the lifespan of the bed linen you use today, and unfortunately we cannot answer that. We don't see that question very often when it comes to regular bedding.
Normally you wash the duvet cover and pillowcase - not the duvet. We dare to stick our chin out and say that the duvet is washed a maximum of once a year in normal homes. If you do it twice, you are 100% better than the majority (based on our most general speculation).Β
One of the great advantages of Folkness quilts is that the entire product is washed every time. Since the duvet cover and duvet are one product, you kill two birds with one stone.
Welcome to test the total freshness - it's unbeatable!
Having said that, we don't want to contribute to unnecessary washing, the Folkness blanket should be washed when needed, feel free to turn it over and use it a little longer instead of washing too often.
We recommend trying to break the usual washing pattern, and not "overwash". Often we collect mountains of laundry. Does everything really have to be washed at given intervals? The most important thing is to wash bed sheets and pillowcases more frequently. But maybe not the whole family's quilts as often. Wash the Folkness blankets when needed. Your duvet may need to be washed more often than your partner's for various reasons, for example.
We like it slightly used, wrinkled - but if, for example, you usually iron your bedclothes, do it! Remember to only run on one dot on the iron. Otherwise, the quilt can flatten somewhat and lose the fluff.
Otherwise, we recommend using a steamer β works just as well!Β
Another top tip is simply to use a regular water spray bottle, and moisten the cover with it and at the same time pull a little with your hands over the worst wrinkles. Works great!
- All fabric is bought from Portugal.
- Production of quilts takes place in Estonia in a Nordic Swan certified production.
- Sewing also takes place in Estonia in the same production.
- Outer fabric, filling and inner fabric are Oeko-Tex 100 class 1 certified.
- The outer fabric is also GOTS certified.
Because then a little of the greatness falls in the Folkness blanket. It will not be as easy to manage. And simple is what we work with and after.
Folkness quilts must be washed and dried as smoothly and quickly as possible.
Having said that, our duvets are quite fluffy and lovely, but if you are going from a really big and heavy down duvet then of course there is a difference.
We start with medium hot and constantly develop to find more varieties.
We love percale!
But we also chose percale fabric because it is a hard-wearing and durable fabric that feels fresh and airy, while being soft against the skin. It provides a good balance between comfort and durability, making it perfect for quilts that will be washed and used frequently. Percale is also good at regulating temperature, making it feel cool when it's hot and warming when it's cold. It is simply a good fit for our Folkness blankets, which should be both functional and comfortable.
We know that when it comes to textile products, the biggest impact on the environment occurs in the production and transport of the product. That is, until the product reaches the end consumer.
There, we have tried to make the best choices we can.
We have chosen to use GOTS certified outer fabric, Oeko-tex 100 class 1 certified outer fabric, filling and inner fabric.
The production takes place in a Nordic Swan certified production facility.
Fabrics are bought from Portugal and production of the quilts is done in Estonia.
How we as consumers then treat the product in everyday life does not have as much influence as the production, but is of course central regardless!
There are many who wash far too much and some only when absolutely necessary. We are aware that our quilts require more washing machines and possibly dryers to run compared to standard duvets. But we like to challenge the usual way we usually wash, for example;
- Do you have to wash all the bed linen in the household at the same time? Wash the Folkness blankets that actually need to be washed.
- Must all duvets be washed at the same interval? Maybe it's enough to wash yours, and not the children's this week, etc.Β
- It is more important to wash bed sheets and pillowcases at more frequent intervals, because you lie on/against them.
- Try turning the duvet over once and use it a little more instead of falling into the "must wash everything on the same day" mindset.
- How modern is your washing machine? It is of great importance in terms of environmental impact. A modern machine is clearly better for the environment.
- Do not operate at a higher temperature than necessary. Feel free to run the eco program.Β
If you know that you chose products that were produced in a good way, and that were not transported too far, you have done more for the environment than if you chose less well produced products and then wash and care for them in a more environmentally friendly way. Washing less does not automatically lead to good environmental thinking, but a conscious choice when purchasing the product is even more important.
